Before you begin the Notes client upgrade, do the following:

• Review the Considerations topic in this guide specific to your client platform.
• Close all open applications, including anti-virus software.
• Ensure that users have Write and Modify permissions to the program directory, data directory, and all associated subdirectories.
• Have administrative or root access rights required to install/upgrade Notes.
• If you are upgrading Notes on a Microsoft™ Windows™ system, log in as an administrator or set administrator-level privileges for all users. If administrative rights are not available, enable the setting Always install with elevated privileges.
• Back up critical files.
• Optionally customize the Notes install kit, for example to add a new signed feature or remove a supplied feature.
• Optionally specify Domino® policies to be deployed during upgrade.
