Notes Auto Update
You don't have to rely on third-party products to automate deployment of new versions and updates of HCL Notes® or HCL Client Application Access (HCAA). Instead, you can enable Auto Update (AUT) servers to deploy updates automatically.

New client install packages are uploaded and distributed to AUT-enabled Domino® servers through an AUT Catalog (autcat.nsf). Notes or HCAA clients that are enabled through Desktop Settings policy regularly poll the servers to check for new packages to download and install.

The configuration components of AUT servers are:

A Domino directory group that you create for the AUT servers.
A server Configuration document that you create in which you specify the DNS name that clients use to connect to AUT servers for install updates. Saving this document automatically generates a Web Site document and a Web SSO configuration document for the AUT server or servers.
An AUT Catalog (autcat.nsf), created and replicated to AUT servers automatically. The catalog is used to upload new client install packages to AUT servers and to define version upgrade paths.
Desktop Settings policies (Client Upgrade -> AUT tab) that you create to assign users to particular client versions to upgrade to.

General AUT requirements are:

AUT servers must be in one Domino domain.
Round-robin DNS must be used for distributing client update requests to multiple AUT servers in a Domino domain.
Install kits downloaded from the web site (web kits) can be deployed. Install kits on CD-ROM are not supported.
Clients to be upgraded must be in the same Domino domain as the AUT servers.
Mac and iOS platforms are not currently supported for upgrades.
Downgrades to prior client versions is not supported.
Server upgrades via AUT are not supported.

Requirements to upgrade Notes clients are:

Notes 10.0.1 or later clients on Windows™ can be upgraded.
AUT servers must run at least Domino 10.0.1.
AUT servers require a Domino 10.0.1 or later version of the Domino directory design (pubnames.ntf).

Requirements to upgrade HCAA clients are:

Standalone HCAA 3.0.1 or later clients on Windows can be upgraded. Note that AUT cannot be used to upgrade from HCAA 2.0.x or HCAA 3.0.0. Also, upgrades from a dual client scenario (where HCAA and Notes are both installed) is not supported.
AUT servers must run at least Domino 11.0.1.
AUT servers require a Domino 11.0.1 or later version of the Domino directory template (pubnames.ntf) and the Aut Catalog template (autcat.ntf).
Configuring AUT servers
To configure Domino servers to be AUT servers, configure TLS on the servers and then create a Configuration document for the AUT servers.
Using the AUT Catalog to upload new Notes versions
When a new version of HCL Notes or HCL Client Application Access becomes available that you want to deploy, you use the AUT Catalog (autcat.nsf) to upload its install executable file to AUT servers.
Use Desktop Settings to enable clients to install updates
After you've used the AUT Catalog to deploy a new install executable file on the AUT servers, use the Client Upgrade -> AUT tab in Desktop Settings policy to specify on which users' clients the package is installed.
